Takaido Art Festival (2024)

As a collaborative project between Shinkiba-Yumenoshima Wakuwaku Osanpo Art Fest 2024 and Takaido Art Festival 2024, a series of family portraits, ‘Before Thrown Away’ in which everyone wears clothes to be discarded, were on view as installation during the same period. This installation links Koto and Suginami wards, where there were disputes over waste disposal issues from the late 1950s to the 1970s, so called the ‘Tokyo Garbage War’. Yumenoshima in Koto Ward and Takaido in Suginami Ward were at the centre of the war, and this body of work is the result of my research into the war.

For the Takaido Art Festival, windows of a building in front of the Takaido Incineration Plant are used as light boxes. The works can be seen with the chimney of the plant.

「新木場・夢の島わくわくおさんぽアートフェス2024」と「高井戸芸術祭2024」のクロスイベントとして、誰もが「捨てる服」を着た家族写真シリーズ〈Before Thrown Away〉を展示しました。これは1950年代後半から1970年代にかけて、いわゆる「東京ごみ戦争」と呼ばれるごみ処理問題をめぐる紛争のあった江東区と杉並区を結ぶインスタレーションとなっています。江東区・夢の島と杉並区・高井戸は「東京ごみ戦争」の中心となったエリアであり、私の〈Before Thrown Away〉は「東京ごみ戦争」に関するリサーチからうまれた作品です。

「高井戸芸術祭」では駅前にある高井戸清掃工場の煙突を背景に、ビルの窓をライトボックスに見立てました。
